The Stewartville Fire Department opened three hydrants along Stewartville's July 4th parade route out of concern for spectators, parade participants and animals.
The Stewartville Morning Lions Club was the grand marshall for this year's Summerfest Parade. Among the members participating were Jason Holland, Cindy Bushman, Brian Bushman, Carol Mrotek, Sharon Moehnke, Kay Tvedt and Del Jahns.
Every Wednesday afternoon, LouAnn Mensink brings her pies, sweet breads, pepper jelly, cookies and much more to the Farmers Market at the Strikers Corner parking lot along Hwy. 63. The market will continue through September from 4-7 p.m.
Swinging wooden bats, the Stewartville Legion baseball team scored 16 runs off 14 hits in two games, capturing its own four-team Wood Bat tournament on June 29.
Cadet Jenae Stolarzyk received the Daughters of the American Revolution ROTC Medal from Jane Fary, Honorary Regent of the Fort Atkinson-Eli Pierce Chapter NSDAR at the ROTC.

Four- and five-year-olds who attend Tiger Time day care may also be eligible for a corresponding school readiness program beginning in the fall of 2008. Stewartville School Board unanimously approved the program, designed to more adequately prepare children for kindergarten.
Stewartville and area residents will soon have an opportunity to purchase fresh meats, produce and much more at a Friday evening farmers market to be established at the parking lot behind the Ace Hardware store.
The 12th annual garden tour will be held Saturday with tours of the gardens of Kelly and Dan Tweite, Ken and Carol Kruger and Jean Thomson.
The Stewartville Chamber of Commerce welcomed two businesses to the Stewartville business community, including Greg Schimek of AFLAC and the Pizza Ranch restaurant and its new owner, Monte Beck.
Benjamin Grabau, a 10-year-old from Stewartville, caught a three-pound, 18.5-inch long small mouth bass using a night crawler as bait while fishing in the Root River at Florence Park July 12.
Thirty-three members of the class of 1962 gathered at the Plummer House in Rochester July 3 for their 45th class reunion. In attendance were Art Johnson, Frank Weber, Steve Schwarz, Ron Henry, Vern Boettcher, Don Hale, Ron Paukert, George Beach, Al Nicklay, Mary King Foss, DeLoris Pehl Kinny, Ron Wilson, Betty Schleusner Miller, Mary Engel Ratkovich, Paula Ellinghuysen McDonald, Edith Evans Yessis, Pat Himmer, Linda Renken Bucknell, Carolyn Gibbs Crawford, Nancy Noble Bamlet, Nancy Nelson Scantlin, Ruth Klenke Miles, Ellen Skibbe Bratberg, Gary Miller, Sharon Witter Radke, Mary McGrand Schibursky, Ken Gunderson, Margaret Ehrsman Olson, Paul Gerber, Laurel Vomhoff Graham, Donna Welch Brooks, Lonnie Ames and Pauline Zimprich Agan.
Lloyd Kilmer wrote a letter home to his Stewartville family while being held as a prisoner of war during World War II. He presented a copy of the letter to the Stewartville American Legion.

A Summer's Garden Walk, the eighth annual garden tour sponsored by the Stewartville Friends of the Library will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon. The tour will include gardens of Gerald and Helen Erickson, Buck and Janice Amos and Mary and Vince Herring.
The eighth annual Burr Oak Buffalo Ranch Buffalo Fest will be held Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21.

Walter "Sonny" Podein of rural Stewartville has been collecting FarmAll tractors since he can remember. His 1929 FarmAll was one of several featured at the Root River Antique Historical Power Association Show held over the weekend south of Racine. Podein has a collection of 22 tractors.
Stewartville High School students planning on participating in athletics in the 1997-98 school year are required to have physicals once every three years. Generally students need one going into the 7th and 10th grades.
Jimmy's Salad Dressings and Dips in Stewartville was the victim of vandalism and an attempted burglary sometime last Thursday night or early Friday morning. Tires on vehicles parked in the lot were slashed and two window screens removed in an apparent attempt to enter the building.

There were no injuries as a result of a potentially dangerous break to a natural gas line here Saturday, in the construction zone on Highway 63 in front of Ready-Mix Company in north Stewartville. A line was snagged with a backhoe bucket.
Local real estate broker and appraiser Mel Harrington has filed his bid for the District 4 seat on the Olmsted County Board of Commissioners. He will face at least one known opponent, incumbent commissioner Bill Kuisle.
Stewartville Lioness elected 1992-93 officers at their organizational meeting July 13. Elected were Beverly Thompson, president; Elaine Eggler, vice president; Ruth Bohlen, second vice president; Irene Drewes, secretary; Lois Jorstad, assistant secretary; Lois Barthelme, treasurer; Marilyn Schiebstad, assistant treasurer; Sharon Haase and Joan Titus, tail twisters, and Ruth Pingree, Bev Jahns, Helen Towey and Eleanor House, directors.
Jan Lubahn opened a new costume rental shop at her home at 110 10th St. NW. Prior to this time, Lubahn has housed her creations at The Craftique on Main Street in Stewartville. Her new business is known as Jan's Costume Creations.
Virginia Gunderson of Stewartville won $3,000 on a baseball Minnesota Lottery scratch ticket purchased at Boyum Foods.

Warren's Department Store, owned and operated by Warren and Lorella Anding since 1955, has been sold to Jerry and Rosanne Fix of St. Charles.
The icy talons of a severe hail storm ripped through an estimated 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans eight miles west of Stewartville during the early evening of July 14.

The county board is continuing its effort to prevent musk thistle from becoming a more critical problem to Olmsted County. The thistle can quickly take pasturelands, making them useless for grazing livestock.
Last Saturday, several of the Stewartville Jaycees spent a day helping the residents of Wykoff clean up the debris scattered throughout the town by two small tornadoes which hit that community last Thursday night.

The Stewartville Alumni Association will hold its 65th reunion on Aug. 5 at Stewartville High School.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Davis have been hired by the First Baptist Church of Stewartville to teach nursery school and kindergarten this fall in the newly-named Stewartville Christian School.

Softball fans will now be able to witness their favorite sport in Stewartville in comfort. Last week a group of local men headed by Roy Ellenberg took up a collection for the erection of two bleachers and several rows of seats along the base lines. Soliciting was so good that we now have five instead of the original two bleachers.
The Waterloo Workers 4-H Club softball team defeated the Racine Ramblers 4-H Club team, 7-5.
Infestations of grasshoppers and army worms in Pleasant Grove and Pleasant Valley areas have caused farmers in these sections to harvest earlier than planned, according to reports reaching Stewartville Wednesday.
Merchants of Stewartville are planning one of the greatest value days in the history of the village for the weekend of July 30-31. The majority of business houses have signified their intention of making the Dollar Days the finest bargain days in their history. Readers will do well to watch the Dollar Day edition which will be off the presses next Thursday.

Negotiations are now being made for the leasing of the land adjacent to the Lake Florence Park from the Cussons Milling Co.
July 21, 1922
One hundred and thirty men and boys gathered at Lake Florence Park last Thursday for the purpose of ridding the lake of seaweed and other weeds and dirt. The lake was thoroughly dredged and the waters of this popular fishing and swimming place now sparkle. At noon the workers were given a fine dinner by the ladies of the Civic League.

Shelley Horton has had a durable sidewalk laid on the north side of his store.
Russell & Dyar made a record in selling McCormick harvesters last Monday having disposed of four on that day.
The contract for the erection of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville has been let to Messrs. Hollern and Ellis of Chatfield for $2,700 and a stately edifice will soon grace the east side of Stewartville.

Quite a curiosity for this part of the country was here last week. It was some of the Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin.
The street leading west from the depot has been improved to such an extent that it now has the nicest grade of any street in town.
Word has been received from Washington D. C. stating that the stage running from High Forest to Rochester will not be discontinued.
James Griffin living two and a half miles north of here, has a freak of a calf.
