The Stewartville Fire Department remained plenty busy in 2017. Vance Swisher, fire chief, in a PowerPoint presentation at the Stewartville Fire Hall on Feb. 7, said the department responded to 488 calls for service in 2017, including these specific calls: 31 fire calls, up from 25 in 2016. 347 emergency medical calls, down slightly from 350 in 2016. five hazardous condition calls, down slightly from six in 2016. two service calls, down from four in 2016. 81 good-intent calls, down from 108 in 2016. 15 false alarms, down slightly from 16 in 2016. seven mutual aid calls. "The Stewartville Fire Department continues to respond to the highest volume of calls for service in Olmsted County, excluding the Rochester Fire Department," Swisher said in his PowerPoint.
