Workers continue to make steady progress on the new Veterans Memorial Park under construction near Stewartville’s south entrance. The Stewartville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8980, with help from the Stewartville American Legion Post 164, is still raising money for the monument to be placed at the park. When the project began, VFW and Legion leaders estimated it would cost $300,000 to build the Memorial Park.

Workers continue to make steady progress on the new Veterans Memorial Park under construction near Stewartville's south entrance.
Volunteer workers, most of whom are members of the Stewartville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), are almost finished with the roof of the octagon picnic shelter, said Roger Barsness, quartermaster (treasurer) of VFW Post 8980.
"That will be done (this) week," Barsness said.
Later this month, People's Energy Cooperative will run electric power to the site, after which developer Les Radcliffe will finish work on the restroom, he said...
