For years now, the Stewartville School District has been working to reduce the proficiency gap between students who receive free- and reduced-price lunches and those who don't.
Traditionally, students who receive free- and reduced-price lunches score lower on state tests than those who don't.
For example, as of the 2017-18 school year, 71.2 percent of the Stewartville students who didn't receive free and reduced-price lunches were proficient on the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) reading test, compared with 46.8 percent proficiency among the students who did received free- and reduced-price lunches, leaving a gap of 24.4 percent...
