Baseball rebuilding in 2018
|After graduating eight seniors from last year's 10-9 team, the Stewartville baseball squad will rebuild with five returning letterwinners, including All-HVL player Andrew Simmons, RCTC recruit Adam Koenigs, along with Eric Sistad, Nate Sikkink and Tanner Olson. Simmons (.406 BA, 2.60 ERA) and Koenigs (.322 BA, .891 fielding %) will lead nine other varsity candidates in hopes of fielding a team to compete against the parity of the HVL.|
"There are only a few players back with very limited experience, which leaves several spots for the taking," said Tiger coach Mark Schmitz. "The conference is stacked as usual and the guys have to be ready to play tough competition every game."
As a two-year experiment, the Tigers move from Section 1AAA to Section 1AA, playing top-tier rivals from its own West Division like Rochester Lourdes, Pine Island and Byron, as well as perennial powerhouses La Crescent, PEM, St. Charles and Lake City from the East Division.
Eight seniors: Adam Koenigs, P/IF; Nate Sikkink, C/OF; Erik Sistad, OF/IF; Braeden Malone, OF; Jakob Dahle, IF; Tanner Olson, IF; Ryan Voshart, OF/IF; Jacob Swanson, OF.
Three juniors: Andrew Simmons, P/IF; Braxton Ramaker IF/P; Nathan Johnson, OF/P.
