Four returning letterwinners including HVL All-Conference golfers Carter Van Tassel and Nick Lechtenberg, along with Carter and Cole Jannsen, will lead a young but talented Stewartville boys golf team in the tough season that lies ahead. Last year the Tigers captured first place at the Stewie and ZM Invites and finished fourth out of 11 teams in the HVL behind league champs Lake City, Rochester Lourdes and Byron. Lake City will again be the team to beat in the HVL and Section 1AA. Varsity rookie George Gray leads three other top candidates in Alex Larson, Ian Ross and Burkely Ravenhorst, who will vie for the final two varsity spots. "Van Tassel, Lechtenberg and Carter Jannsen are as talented as any players in the HVL," Tiger coach Dave Honsey explained. "If they can play up to their potential and at least two of our next three varsity golfers can shoot consistently in the low 80s, we will challenge for the HVL title." Tiger girls After finishing second to perennial power Lake City the past two seasons and graduating its top three golfers, the Stewie girls will rebuild around four returning letterwinners in senior Kienna Marshall, juniors Olivia Boe and Teagan Tonjum (placed 14th in both HVL and sections); as well as freshman Campbell Gunderson. "If our returning starters score well we should contend for a top-four finish in the 11-team HVL," Tiger coach Scott Rindahl predicted. "A lot depends on how well our young and inexperienced varsity rookies develop." Leading candidates for the remaining varsity spots include junior Marie Rindahl as well as sophomores Payton Maas and Maya Krapf.
