Private family burial to be held for Theresa Rose, 92

Theresa C. Rose, 92, of Stewartville, died on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, of complications following a stroke at the Stewartville Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Theresa Caroline Drees was born on Jan. 5, 1924 to August and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Drees in Wabasha. She grew up on the family farm and attended St. Felix Catholic School in Wabasha and also attended secretarial school in Winona. She was employed at the Kahler Hotel in Rochester for a few years before moving to Sioux Falls, SD, where she was employed as a secretary. Theresa was married on March 27, 1949 in Sioux Falls to Leon J. Rose. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Rochester for 10 years before moving to Pleasant Grove Township with their family. Theresa was a homemaker and Leon was a self-employed auto mechanic. Mr. Rose died on Dec. 16, 1966. Theresa raised her five children on her own and continued to live in Pleasant Grove until moving to Stewartville in 2013. She was employed at Lake Center Industries in Stewartville and as a home health care provider with Family Services in Rochester for many years, well into her 80's. She was a longtime member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church where she volunteered with its lady's groups and in the church office. Theresa enjoyed gardening and flowers, garage sales, playing cards monthly with her sisters in Wabasha and was an excellent baker, famous for her apple pies. She loved traveling and never turned down a chance to take a road trip, often times with her favorite traveling companion, daughter Marianne. In August of this year, she traveled to Cincinnati with her daughters to visit a grandson. She never lost her sense of adventure - going on a hot air balloon ride and tubing behind a boat while in her 80's. Theresa was deeply loved by her family and many friends and will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to those that stayed with her day and night through her illness, Marianne, Teri, Don, LuAnn and the Care Center staff.
Theresa is survived by her two daughters and three sons, Teri Rose (Langdon) of Neenah, Wis., Leon (Gwen) of Cannon Falls, Donald of Grand Meadow, Marianne (Jerry) Cordell of Rochester and Mark (LuAnn) of rural Spring Valley; 10 grandchildren, Matthew Langdon, Kyle (Keely) Langdon, Jason (Heather) Rose, Derek (Amber) Rose, Dayna (Tom) Jerome, April (Jack) Newman, Ryan (Heather) Cordell, Scott Cordell (Lucas Mueller), Nathan Cordell and Joshua Cordell; nine great-grandchildren, KyAnn and Kelson, Eric, Madeline, Gabriella, Hailey, Dylan and Holly, and Ava; two sisters, Betty Wilson and Dolores Bona of New Brighton, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leon, her parents, son-in-law Bill Langdon, two sisters and a brother Mary Gasch, Margaret Drees and Joe Drees.
A time of visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
Theresa, in her giving spirit, has chosen to donate her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Mayo Clinic.
A private family burial will take place at St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery in Simpson at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to the Stewartville Care Center.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. www.griffin-gray.com
