Celebration of Life for Dayton Rud May 6

Dayton R. Rud, 79, of Rochester, formerly of Stewartville, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017, with his loving family by his side at Golden Living Center East in Rochester, where he had been a resident for the past two weeks.
Dayton Raymond Rud was born April 4, 1938 in Stewartville to Clarence and Thelma (Molde) Rud. He grew up in Stewartville where he attended school and graduated from Stewartville High School in 1957. He served in the U.S Marines and the Army Reserves until his discharge in 1963. He was very proud to be a Marine.
Dayton was married on July 16, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville to Judith C. Brandt. Following their marriage the couple lived in Stewartville, where they started their family and lived for a number of years. They were later divorced.
Dayton was employed at Telex Corporation in Rochester for over 40 years and was a supervisor at the time of his retirement.
Dayton was married on June 23, 1989 to Colleen Payne and the couple made their home in Rochester for many years. He was employed part time as a driver with O'Reilly Auto Parts and as a greenskeeper at Oak Summit Golf Course both in Rochester. He was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville and was a current member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rochester. Dayton was a longtime active member of the Eagles Club in Rochester and enjoyed many years volunteering with the Eagles Cancer Telethon. He was an avid golfer and a member of Oak Summit Golf Course, where he enjoyed volunteering with tournaments and other events. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, followed the Vikings and Twins and loved time spent with his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dayton is survived by his wife, Colleen and three daughters, Teresa (Steve) Nikolai of Victoria, Christine (Tom) Schreyer of Zumbrota, and Kelli Rud of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Dustin (Molly) Sherman, Christopher Sherman (Danielle Masters), Jessica (Shane) Bostrom, Nathan Nikolai, Anthony Schreyer, Joseph Schreyer and Shawna Rud; three great-grandchildren, Abbie and Charlie Sherman and Pandora Bostrom; four stepchildren, Mary Peterson, Ron Payne, John Payne and Chad Payne; three sisters and one brother, Charlotte Kath, Sandy Rodenz, Germaine (Charlie) Baker and Harry Rud, all of Stewartville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Elaine "Shorty" Haley, Carolyn Evans and Janice Borgschatz, two brothers, Lyle Rud and Richard Rud and two siblings who died at a young age, Janet and William Rud.
In keeping with Dayton's wishes, his body has been donated to Mayo Clinic-Rochester for research. A celebration of Dayton's life will take place from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Oak Summit Golf Course, 2751 County Road 16 SW, Rochester.
