Visitation for Nancy Stankey May 8
Nancy C. Stankey, 75, of Rochester, died on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 unexpectedly of natural causes, at her home.
Nancy Carole Ostby was born on Aug. 8, 1941 in Stewartville, to Ray and Bernice (Lange) Ostby. She grew up in Stewartville attended and graduated from Stewartville High School in 1959. That summer she was employed in the admissions office at Olmsted Medical Hospital in Rochester where she stayed for a number of years.
Nancy was married to John Stankey. Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester and then Simpson, where they raised their four children. They were later divorced and Nancy moved to Rochester where she has continued to make her home for many years. Nancy was also employed in the offices at Channel One in Stewartville and Rochester and later retired from Atlas Van Lines in Rochester. She was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville, where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed league bowling, trips with her grandchildren, knitting baby blankets for her grandchildren, an occasional trip to the casino, her dog Sparkey who was always at her feet, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Nancy is survived by her four children, Kim Stankey of Rochester, Kathy Leloux (Ray Rash) of Livingston, Tex., Kevin Stankey of Pine Island and Kenneth Stankey of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, Jesse Stankey (Jamie Hoekstra), Heather Scanlan (Jamie Long), Jeremy Volkart, Brian Stankey, Ryan (Amber) Leloux, Ranae Leloux, Randy Leloux, Ashley Stankey, William Stankey, Ginger (Kevin) Juel and Alek Wallin; 15 great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Aubrey and Ashton, Adrianna, Abigail, and Gabrial, Aubrey, McKayla, Kevin, Austin, and Rylan, Jacob, Bryden Wyatt and Delaynie; three sisters, Rose (Bob) Swanson of Colo., Mary (Jim) Meredith of Stewartville and Sharon of South Dakota; two brothers, Harold (Pat) Ostby of Dexter and Lyle Ostby of Iowa and many nieces and nephews. She was also grandma to many of her grandchildren's friends, and lifelong friends, Ken and Bev Zahradnik of Rochester.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, John Stankey and two brothers, Terry Ostby and Tony Meeker.
A time of visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. A family prayer service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. David Hoot officiating. Burial will take place at First English Cemetery in Blooming Pairie at a later date.
