Rite of Christian Burial for Jerry Johnson May 11

The Rite of Christian Burial for Jerry M. Johnson, 67, of Kasson, formerly of Stewartville, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died on Friday, May 5, 2017, surrounded by his family, following a short illness with cancer, at Maple Manor Care Center in Rochester where he had been a resident for five days.
Jerry Michael Johnson was born on Sept. 1, 1949 in Harmony, to Allerd and Marion (O'Connor) Johnson. He moved with his family as a young boy to Stewartville, where he attended school, graduating from Stewartville High School in 1967.
Jerry was married on May 25, 1968 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville to Ruth E. Nelson. Following
their marriage the couple moved to Minneapolis where Jerry attended the Minnesota School of Business and where they began their family. After receiving a business degree, Jerry was employed by Associated Milk Producers, Inc. in Rochester for a number of years and the Johnsons lived in Rochester. He was then employed with EcoLab Co. of St. Paul. Jerry and family moved first to Nebraska and then Waseca, and after a 20 plus year career in sales and management, retired from EcoLab. He was employed again by AMPI and once again he and Ruth moved to Manchester, Iowa for 11 years until Jerry officially retired from AMPI in 2015. They moved to Kasson in January of this year. Ruth is a homemaker and has worked with children as a paraprofessional in the various districts where she and Jerry have lived.
Jerry was a past member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville and was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Waseca. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. Jerry enjoyed being in the outdoors, hunting or fishing, camping and golfing. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Michelle(Greg) Aakre of Rochester and his son, Michael (Jennifer) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren, Zachary Edling, Nelson Edling, Brynn, Annabelle and Leah Johnson and great-granddaughter, Hallie; his brother, Art (Margaret) Johnson of Rochester and his extended Nelson family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A time of visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday morning. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
