1/25/2018 9:00:00 AM Lewis Wibben dies of natural causes
Lewis R. Wibben, 77, of Stewartville, died on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, of natural causes at his home. Lewis Roger Wibben was born on April 4, 1940 in Titonka, Iowa, to John "Jack" and Augusta (Tegtmeyer) Wibben. He moved with his family as a boy to Taiopi and then to Stewartville, where he attended Stewartville High School, graduating in 1958. He enlisted into the U.S. Marines serving four years. After his discharge in 1965, he returned to Stewartville, where he has continued to make his home. He was employed for over 30 years as a field mechanic at Libby, McNeil & Libby and then Seneca Foods in Rochester. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage shop, mowing and doing yard work, helping his neighbors in the yard and collecting toy tractors. He enjoyed visiting with friends, time spent with his family and was a practical joker who had an active sense of humor, especially with his nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Lewie. Lewis is survived by two sisters and two brothers, Janice (Larry) Billman of Chatfield, Ronald (Marion) Wibben of Stewartville, Curtis (Linda) Wibben of rural Stewartville and Sandra (Dallas) Gardner of Chatfield, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Angie Broughman and Meredith Simon, and an infant sister and infant brother. In keeping with Lewis's wishes, there will be no service or visitation. A private family burial and committal service with military graveside honors will take place on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston. Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
