It took George Lucas 33 years to reveal the origins of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it’s officially confirmed.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, the central character in the Star Wars saga, could soon be back in a much-anticipated new series. After being brilliantly portrayed by Ewan McGregor in the prequel and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+, the Jedi is set to return in season 2 of Ahsoka, scheduled for 2026. Showrunner Dave Filoni promises an ambitious season, faithful to the spirit of the saga, giving fans a new lease of life in this galaxy. The season promises to explore Obi-Wan’s youth alongside Anakin Skywalker, with flashbacks set during the Clone Wars. Finally, we’ll have a little more on his origins and in particular his planet, whose history is the most incredible in the entire Star Wars universe.

A zany origin

It took George Lucas 33 years to reveal the origin of Obi-Wan Kenobi, one of the most emblematic characters in the Star Wars saga. Ever since his first appearance in 1977’s A New Hope, the Jedi master’s past has remained a mystery, including his planet of origin. This secret was finally revealed during an interview in 2010, when the creator of Star Wars revealed with a touch of humour that Obi-Wan came from the mysterious “Stewjon”, a name inspired by the talkshow host Jon Stewart. Although this answer was originally a joke, it was made official in the Star Wars canon, keeping an official record of this atypical origin despite its light-hearted tone.

The world of Stewjon, located in the system of the same name, is described as a planet with a breathable atmosphere for humans, with a predominantly grassy landscape. Obi-Wan himself has few memories of the place, having been abducted at a young age for Jedi training, which explains his limited attachment to his roots. Outside of the official canon, legend has it that he still remembered simple moments with his family, particularly his brother Owen. The planet Stewjon is also home to other secondary characters such as Tadd Marteens, a rebel featured in the Star Wars comics. The planet Stewjon has since been officially recognised in the Star Wars canon as the birthplace of Obi-Wan Kenobi, although very little is said about it in the films or series. To date, no major project has explored this planet in detail, and the excitement surrounding this project in season 2 of Ahsoka
