The top four place winners in the Stewartville Middle School spelling bee include, clockwise from front, Amber Carr, first place; Brady Pickett, second place; Emma-Bailey Mullinix, third place; and Grace Elton, fourth place. The top four finishers will move on to compete at the bee at the Southeast Service Cooperative on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Amber Carr was the last contestant standing at the annual Stewartville Middle School spelling bee last week. Amber, a seventh grader, became her school's spelling champion by correctly spelling "germinate," defined as "to begin or to cause to grow: sprout." She received a first-place blue ribbon and certificate for her efforts. After the contest, she admitted that even though she won, she's not all that excited about spelling...
