For many consecutive years, Barb Neubauer, right, and the city of Stewartville earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. In this STAR file photo, Mayor Jimmie-John King, left, presented the award to Neubauer, the city’s finance director, in October 2015.
When Barb Neubauer looks back on her 32 years keeping tabs on the city of Stewartville's finances, she has only fond memories. "I loved that whole job," she said. "There wasn't anything I didn't like. I loved it all. If I hadn't gotten older and hadn't had to deal with these medical things, I still would have wanted to do it." Last February, she was diagnosed with a Stage 4 brain tumor. She underwent surgery and continues to receive chemotherapy treatments one week each month. Recognizing she had to take care of her health, she retired from her job as the city's finance director effective July 1. She's upbeat about her health. "The tests are coming out good," she said. "So far, so good..." For more on this story pick up your copy of the Oct. 29 Stewartville STAR.
