Despite the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Kevin and Samantha Welter still wanted to take part in the Stewartville Area Chamber of Commerce's Summerfest celebration on the Fourth of July.
When they saw the Chamber offered a Virtual Kids Parade as part of this year's festivities, they seated their daughter Izabelle, 6, and son Silas, 19 months, on separate small tractors, fitted them for hats of red, white and blue, decorated the tiny machines with patriotic tinsel, and supplemented the scene with three American flags.
Shortly after sending the photo to the Chamber office, the Welters learned they and their children were the first-place winners in the Virtual Kids Parade contest. The first, second, and third-place winners all won a camping chair, a fishing pole shaped like a marshmallow roaster, and a bag containing three books and S'mores-making ingredients...
