On Veterans Day, Americans honor their noblest citizens, Mayor Jimmie-John King said at a taped, virtual ceremony at the mostly empty Stewartville High School gym last week. King, a featured speaker at the annual SHS Veterans Day program, thanked the men and women willing to pay the ultimate price for victory and freedom. His comments were recorded for SHS and SMS students who were scheduled to listen to the speech on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11. "We pay tribute to those brave souls who raced into gunfire, roared into battle, and ran into hell to face down evil," King said. "They made this sacrifice not for fame, or for money, or even for glory, they did it for you and me and for God and country." The mayor urged his young listeners to honor America's veterans not only with words, but with deeds as well. For more on this story pick up your copy of the Nov. 17 Stewartville STAR.
