Keeping in step with a lively beat, the members of the Stewartville High School Band strived to form a more perfect union last week.
It was Tuesday morning, Aug. 3, the second day of the 2021 SHS Band Camp, and Jessica Honsey, the director, was happy to be back, especially considering last year's camp was cancelled by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Honsey was more than a bit uptight about starting another Camp.
"I was so nervous, it felt like I was a little kid starting school," she said. "I couldn't sleep, I was nauseous and extremely nervous. I want so badly for everyone to like band, and what we do, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to try to do right by everyone."
Most of the musicians in this year's SHS Band haven't been through Band Camp yet, so they weren't sure what to expect, Honsey said. But in the end, the kids, as always, were awesome, she said...
