City, state recognize school bus drivers

Every school day, Stewartville's school bus drivers wake up with an important task at hand.
Operating the large, traditionally yellow and black vehicles, they pick up Stewartville's children, take them to school in the morning and drive them back home in the afternoon.
City and state officials, recognizing the importance of school bus drivers' work, will celebrate the sixth annual School Bus Driver Appreciation Day this Wednesday, Feb. 23.
Belinda Selfors, superintendent of Stewartville Public Schools, thanked the district's bus drivers at the School Board's regular meeting last week.
"We wanted to recognize our school bus drivers for the contributions they make to our educational programming," Selfors told the School Board. "School bus drivers are the first face that students see in the morning and the last they see in the afternoon."
Grisim School Bus, Inc., the district's transportation provider, has an excellent safety record transporting thousands of kids to and from school on a daily basis, Selfors said.
"We're very grateful to them for the contributions they make to our educational programming in getting our kids to and from school safely, as well as activities and all the other services they provide for us," she said.
Curt and Connie Grisim, owners of Grisim School Bus, Inc., have been the Stewartville School District's bus vendors 38 years, Selfors said...
