Lachland Lennis, 3, sits with his mom and dad, Kristin Scheiber and Chuck Lennis, at the family’s home in Stewartville. Lachland is scheduled to meet soon with a team of specialists in Chicago to ascertain if he has ROHHAD, a very rare condition that includes rapid-onset obesity.
Sitting in his Stewartville home, Lachland Lennis flashed a big smile as he played a video game with his dad, Chuck Lennis. Kristin Scheiber, Lachland's mother, sitting nearby, described Lachland as "very rambunctious and a quick learner." "He's caring, and he likes to have fun," she said. "He's very set in his own ways." Now 3 years old, Lachland began having health problems at 6 months, when his heart would fully stop beating and he would stop breathing. In September 2019, he had a pacemaker implanted in his chest. Then, in January 2021, when his primary physician noticed he was gaining weight at an unusually rapid pace, she referred him to an endocrinologist...
