On Saturday, July 2, members of the Stewartville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and American Legion Post 164 raised the American flag at the hopefully soon-to-be-completed Veterans Memorial Park near the south entrance to the city. "We wanted to have the U.S. flag up for the Fourth of July," said Roger Peterson, former Legion and VFW commander and a member of the Veterans Memorial Park Committee. VFW and Legion members are still awaiting the day when the new park will officially open to the public.
