Even with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic still on their minds, school officials remain hopeful the Stewartville High School class of 2020 can celebrate its commencement at Schaefer Field on Friday evening, July 24.
"It remains the hope that an in-person graduation ceremony can occur that allows all the students and their parents to unite one last time to celebrate," Patrick Breen, SHS principal, said in an e-mail last week.
If the graduation ceremony moves forward, at least 450 people would gather at Schaefer Field, Breen said. And although school officials would take all the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, the current public health safety requirements do not permit a gathering that large, he said...
