Concerned about some students' behavior at Stewartville High School, the school's teachers and staff have developed their own behavioral intervention model.
At an inservice last spring, a school committee focused on three characteristics to address concerns at SHS: accountability, involvement and respectfulness.
The first letters of the three words, Accountable, Involved and Respectful, form a new acronym for SHS teachers, staff and students: AIR Tigers.
Juliete Parlette, an English teacher at SHS, is one of 18 members of the committee that worked on coming up with the new intervention system. At a meeting on Monday evening, July 27, Parlette spoke to the School Board about the committee's work.
"We all worked together and wanted to come up with a more effective discipline system," she said. "I would say, across the board, most of our staff were concerned about this."
