The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic couldn't stop thousands of children and adults from enjoying themselves at the Stewartville pool last summer.
The City Council, at its Tuesday, Nov. 24 meeting, reviewed a report showing total attendance at the pool was 17,058 for 2020, including:
" 3,300 from June 15-30.
" 7,126 for July.
" 5,878 for August.
" 754 from Sept. 1-7.
The Council, at its Tuesday, June 9 meeting, agreed to open the pool at 50 percent capacity beginning on Monday, June 15. Cheryl Terhaar, pool manager, said at the time the pool's capacity is 450 swimmers at any one time.
Officials said that at 50 percent capacity, up to 225 people would be allowed to swim during Session 1 on a weekday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and as many as 225 more could swim during Session 2 on that same weekday afternoon, from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Terhaar said she's thankful the pool was able to stay open for the summer in the midst of the pandemic...
