Scott Romens took the oath of office as the newest member of the Stewartville School Board last week. Romens, one of three candidates seeking three seats on the Board in November, received 3,017 votes to earn a four-year term. He replaces Dean Mikel, who decided not to seek re-election after serving 13 1/2 years on the Board. Rebecca Wortman, School Board chair, administered the oath of office, telling Romens it's an honor he was elected to guide the education of the Stewartville School District's children. "As you recite the oath of office, you assume a tremendous responsibility as a director of our School District with the duties empowered by the State Legislature," Wortman told Romens. "This power puts you and the other members of our School Board in the position of being both morally and legally responsible for equitable, quality education of every student in the district."
