Celebrating her father's military
service last week, Vicki
Hoover shed tears of joy.
On a warm and sunny Tuesday,
July 20, Hoover joined hundreds
of others gathered at the
Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial
in Rochester to pay tribute to her
dad, Joyce Johnson, an Army Air
Force bomber pilot in World War
II.
Johnson, who spent more than
1,100 hours in the cockpit, earned
many medals for his valor --
medals he had not received more
than 75 years after he had completed
his service.
However, Dick Krom of
Rochester, with help from Johnson's
family, decided to hunt for
Johnson's medals, then planned
to present them on July 20, Johnson's
100th birthday...
