As the children and their parents formed long lines to meet him, David Olson twisted and shaped his balloons into a variety of fanciful objects.
Olson, of Red Wing, a balloon artist 30 years, greeted hundreds of kids at the Stewartville Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Summerfest celebration at Bear Cave Park on a hot and humid Sunday, July 4.
Typically, it takes Olson a minute or two to transform a balloon into an imitation motorcycle, alien, crown, Vikings hat, flower or animal. As he works, he talks to the children, asking them questions and listening to their answers...
