The Olmsted County Detention Center is nearing its full capacity for detainees, Sheriff Kevin Torgerson told the Stewartville City Council last week. Torgerson, who lives in Stewartville, visited City Hall to update city officials on happenings at the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office. "Our Detention Center has been, really, on the cusp of being full for about three years now," he said. "We saw a real lull, in a sense, in the detention center population for about four to 4 1/2 years, and then about 2 1/2 years ago it just started to (grow)." The Detention Center's capacity, which traditionally has been 202 detainees, has shrunk to about 180 due to a change in regulations handed down from the Department of Corrections, Torgerson said...
