Hundreds of visitors packed the Stewartville American Legion Post 164 for Gene Peters on Saturday evening, Nov. 24. They all wanted to be there to support Peters, a longtime Stewartville resident who was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) in October. Peters, a photographer, school bus driver and owner of Stewie Motors, a used car business, sat for more than two hours in a corner of the Legion Hall, greeting guests who offered hugs and handshakes.
