Affirming a recommendation from the Planning & Zoning Commission, the City Council has given Gary Johnson the go-ahead to open a used car business along Stewartville's Main Street. After a 15-minute discussion at its Tuesday, June 11 meeting, the Council unanimously agreed to grant Johnson a conditional use permit to operate Midtown Auto Sales. Mayor Jimmie-John King and councilpersons Craig Anderson, Brent Beyer, Jeremiah Oeltjen and Josh Arndt all OK'd the permit. The used car business will be located near the former Midtown Gas and Grocery building, now occupied by Flowers & More, which opened on Thursday, June 6. Johnson, who owns the property, has also confirmed that Jay Christenson plans to open a jujitsu business at the same location some time this month.
