There’s no place like gnome -- Avery Struckmann, 4, of Racine, plays at the “little gnome village” built by Jennifer Crace and Paul Grafe of Stewartville.

At the base of a tree near her home along Second Avenue Southeast, Jennifer Crace has built what she calls her "little gnome village."
The tiny community includes gnome figures, a front door, mushrooms, hens and chicks, flowers, rocks, benches, windows and more.
Crace started making her world in miniature at the beginning of summer.
"We had the hollowed-out bottom of the tree," she said. "We planted flowers in it and said, 'That's cute,' and thought we should add something else..."
