Within the last month, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office has received several reports that elderly citizens have been scammed out of large amounts of money.
Lt. Lee Rossman listed the cases in an emailed news release, which included these local incidents:
A Stewartville woman who believed she won the Publisher's Clearing House lottery sent $5,000 she thought she needed to pay to receive her winnings.
"She was prepared to send $150,000," Rossman said. "This was reported by the victim's bank, and the family was notified."
A Stewartville area woman sent $9,000 over the past year to a man she met on a hangout app.
"The man told her he was trying to leave the U.K., but couldn't," Rossman said...
