City leaders plan to establish a committee to discuss the pros and cons of Stewartville forming its own police department. The City Council, at a recent winter workshop, directed city staff to start the group, which would include Josh Arndt and Jeremiah Oeltjen, the members of the Council's Public Safety Committee. Mayor Jimmie-John King, speaking at the workshop, asked his fellow Council members what they think about the city's current law enforcement contract with Olmsted County. The mayor said he's against signing another contract with the County, saying Stewartville is large enough to have its own department...
