Edge Construction of Elgin began blacktopping a road for the Bear Cave Estates development just west of Bear Cave Park on Wednesday, June 29. Al and Peggy Chihak, developers of the project, plan to build 18 townhomes and 12 single-family homes along County Road 35 west of 11th Avenue and south of the Chihaks' current homestead. The City Council, at its regular meeting on Monday, June 14, unanimously approved the final plat for the development. "The sewer and water is in, and the rock base for Kodiak Drive is in," Cheryl Roeder, city clerk, said at the time. "We're hoping blacktopping comes within a week or two."
