When rain started to fall at about 9 in the morning and continued until after 11 a.m. on Monday, July 4, Stewartville Area Chamber of Commerce leaders were concerned the weather might cancel the annual Summerfest Parade. "While the parade is not a fundraiser for the Chamber, we knew it is something people look forward to on the Fourth of July," said Nick Johnson, parade chair. "Our team decided to keep things as planned, and if the weather was still sketchy by 4, we would make a decision. Thankfully, things cleared up around 1, so we didn't get too close to pulling the plug." In all, 84 units took part in this year's parade, which began at 6:30 p.m. on a warm and humid evening.
