Lainey Roeder is a grand champion in more ways than one.
Lainey, 11, a member of the High Forest Chippewa Champions 4-H Club who will be a sixth grader at Stewartville Middle School, was the Grand Champion Novice Poultry Showperson and the Grand Champion for Breeding Chickens at this year's Olmsted County Fair.
"I was kind of surprised, because it was my first year," she said. "I was really excited."
She said after she won her first grand championship, her little cousin said she was going to win again.
Amanda Svoboda of the Rock Dell Indians 4-H Club is also a two-way grand champion at this year's fair, winning the top prize with her single fryer market rabbit and her doe and litter.
To produce the litter, she breeds her doe to ensure the bunnies will be four to eight weeks old for the fair. She strives to ensure her rabbits meet the standards established by the American Rabbit Breeders Association.
"It helps to practice with them and pose them how they'll be posed for the show," she said. "I'm constantly breeding them so I can get better rabbits..."
