Ed Krusemark is very grateful for the Mayor's Award for Community Service. Krusemark, deployed around the world about 15 times while serving with the U.S. Navy from 1982 through 2003, has accepted the honor from Mayor Jimmie-John King. He earned the award by helping raise funds for and build the new Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Memorial Park near Stewartville's south entrance. "It was quite a surprise," Krusemark said. "I didn't expect it. I was just doing what was expected, and trying to help the community." Krusemark wasn't present when Mayor King presented the same honor to Roger Barsness and Roger Winch, Vietnam veterans, and Roger Peterson, Afghanistan veteran, at the city's annual awards and recognition event at the Stewartville Civic Center on Wednesday evening, Dec. 14.
