Sports parking lots will improve, expand
Tim Malone, activities director for Stewartville Public Schools, poses at the gravel parking lot for soccer, baseball and softball just north of County Road 6 near Stewartville High School. The School Board, at its regular meeting last week, unanimously approved a plan to pave the lot for 93 parking spaces. About two years ago, the School Board unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of $1,455,000 in general obligation tax abatement bonds to pay for improving the parking lots at Stewartville High School-Middle School, Bonner Elementary School and the Central Education Center. The district will use funds left over from those projects to pay for the current improvements, Malone said. Those funds are designated only for improving parking lots, he said. Traditionally, the gravel lot becomes wet and sloppy in the spring and fall, he said.
