Hannah Hammond was the last contestant standing at Stewartville Middle School's annual spelling bee last week.
Hannah, a seventh grader, became the school spelling champion by correctly spelling "Giza," a city in northern Egypt on the Nile River near Cairo, and the site of the Great Pyramids.
Ashley Goller, an eighth grader, placed second, with eighth graders Cami Hoth and Jack Buntrock third and fourth, respectively.
A total of 38 sixth, seventh and eighth graders took part in the bee at the Performing Arts Center on Wednesday morning, Jan. 15...
