Teachers work on distance learning plan
Members of the Stewartville School Board, mindful of the social distancing guidelines to reduce the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), seated themselves a considerable distance from each other at the Board’s regular meeting on Monday evening, March 23. Members include, in front, Todd Emanuel. Second row, from far left, Lori Miller-Beach, Will Welch, Nichol O’Neill and Ryan Ravenhorst. In back, Rebecca Wortman, board chair. Board member Dean Mikel was absent. Also in back, Tristan Knight, a Boy Scout from Troop 56, Stewartville, attended the meeting to earn a merit badge in community involvement. At last week’s meeting, the School Board approved a recommendation from Superintendent Belinda Selfors and Wortman stating that, due to the declared health pandemic, all School Board meetings beginning on Monday, April 13 will be held by teleconference or other electronic means. “In-person meetings of the Stewartville School Board are not practical or prudent because of a health pandemic or an officially-declared emergency,” the recommendation states. At future meetings, Selfors and Wortman will be stationed at the Central Education Center, with all other School Board members communicating electronically from home.
