Very busy in Kasson, construction workers are making progress on the new facility for students with special needs.
Since breaking ground for the new building in June, Zumbro Education District (ZED) officials have watched the facility take shape, with the gym walls, first-floor administrative space, the main entrance and the student entrance now visible.
Patrick Gordon, executive director of ZED, said in a written report the project wasn't immune to recent heavy rains.
"(Recently), southeastern Minnesota, including the city of Kasson, experienced heavy rainfall and flooding," Gordon said. "Immense water, as well as winds, knocked down masonry scaffolds. A positive note is the new building site, without any filter systems in place yet, drains very well."
The Stewartville School Board, at its regular meeting in late January, unanimously agreed to adopt an amended resolution concurring with an earlier decision to build the 61,000 square-foot building on 3.16 acres in Kasson...
