The local Emergency Management Team, including the city of Stewartville and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department, with help from the American Red Cross and Stewartville School District staff, offered Bear Cave Intermediate School as a shelter after Stewartville households lost electrical on power Dec. 15.

An estimated 1,980 Stewartville households lost electrical power for about 44 hours after tornadoes and thunderstorms packing strong winds knocked down power poles in northern Iowa and Minnesota on Wednesday evening, Dec. 15.
