Karli Hohn, a paraprofessional at Bonner Elementary School, helps laser-focused kindergartner Cohen Johnson find the partially hidden numbers in a book at the school’s Meet the Teacher event on Wednesday, Sept. 7. Meet the Teacher gives students a chance to ease into the first day of classes, said Kelly Carrigan, a first-grade teacher at Bonner. “It establishes their routine right off the bat,” she said. “It’s fun for them to see their desks and their lockers, and know they’ll have their own space.” The event also gives students a chance to talk with their teachers one-on-one, she said.
Kelly Carrigan loves teaching first graders at Bonner Elementary School. Carrigan, who has 14 years of experience as an educator, has spent eight of those years with first graders. Asked what she enjoys most about first grade, she didn't take long to respond. "The students, hands down," she said. "The things they say. Watching the light bulb go on when they learn something new. They're still so sweet, and they love the TLC you give them." Carrigan met all 20 of her students, along with their parents, at Bonner's annual Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Wednesday, Sept. 7. Fifteen student-parent groups came on Tuesday, and five more visited on Wednesday. She's very grateful for Meet the Teacher...
