In its first-ever appearance on the sport's biggest stage, the Stewartville girls cross country team placed all five scorers within the top 50 finishers, scoring 137 points to capture fourth place out of the top 16 teams at the MSHSL Class A Girls Cross Country State Championships in Northfield on Nov. 4. No. 1 runner Kailee Malone paced the Tigers, finishing 13th (6th in team scoring) out of 174 runners in a 5K time of 19:13.6. After placing 39th at state as a sophomore and battling through an injury-riddled junior season, Isaiah Scruggs qualified for the state boys meet as one of 64 individual competitors in his final season as a Tiger. In the Class A boys state field of 176 runners, Scruggs placed 123rd overall, racing the 5K course in 17.59.2. For more on this story pick up your copy of the Nov. 7 Stewartville STAR.
