With the top two teams and the top eight individuals advancing to state, the Stewartville cross country team took on the 23-team Section 1A Championship field at Northern Hills Golf Course in Rochester on Oct. 25. The Tiger girls were hoping to advance to state as a team like they did a year ago, but placed third, scoring 114 points while the boys were trying to improve on their 10th place finish in 2017 and they vaulted to fifth place, scoring 143 points. "The girls field has become quite competitive for those top eight spots and two teams," Tiger coach Mickie Tuseth explained. "Our girls were hoping to advance as a team and it just wasn't their day, but our boys team had some solid performances to place fifth. I'm proud of each one of them and what they gave this season to improving as a team." Kailee Malone was the fifth of eight individual state qualifiers in the girls 5K race and Alex Lawrence was the second individual qualifier in the boys 5K race, as both Tigers will advance to the MSHSL Class A State Cross Country Championships at St. Olaf College in Northfield on Saturday, Nov. 3...
