Ranked No. 9 in the final poll going into the state meet, the Stewartville girls cross country team scored 205 points and placed ninth at the MSHSL Class A Girls Cross Country State Championship meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield on Nov. 2 No. 1 runner Kailee Malone ended her storied four-year participation at the state meet on a positive note. She placed 47th at the state meet as an individual participant last year and moved up an incredible 21 places this year to capture 26th place overall in the field of 176. Malone missed All-State honors by one place, racing to a 5K time of 19:40. Crossing the finish line second for Stewie was Isabel Field, who placed 65th overall, two seconds shy of her personal best (PB) in a time of 20:13. The Tigers' third scorer, Ali Graff, cut an incredible seven seconds off her PB to claim 89th place in a time of 20:32. Olivia Field was the Tigers' fourth scorer. She crossed the finish line 111th in a time of 20:56, three seconds shy of her PB, and Gracie Waltman was the fifth and final scorer, running to 115th place in a time of 21:06. Gloria Nelson, 156th at 22:06 and Kaylie Doherty, 169th at 23:15 completed Stewie's varsity seven. "It was the coldest meet we've had this season with a brisk wind, yet several girls ran so close to personal best times," Tiger coach Mickie Tuseth praised. "They really brought their 'A' game and a mindset to finish strong. They ran with good form and fast feet, passing runners right through the finish line. I'm very proud of all of them and the winning season they had."
