Stewartville's No. 1 singles player Chloe Regal captured second place at the Section 1AA tournament to advance to the MSHSL Class AA State Championships at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis on Oct. 28-29.
Regal lost 0-6, 0-6 to No. 2 seeded Sarah Shahbaz of Minnetonka in her first-round match of the championship bracket. She bounced back to post a 3-6, 6-3, 10-5 win over Savannah Haugen of Bemidji in her quarterfinal match of the consolation bracket. With a season record of 19-4, Regal faced Ava Nelson of Elk River in the semifinal match of the consolation bracket on Oct. 29.
Results from Regal's Oct. 29 matches were too late for the STAR's print deadline, and coverage will continue with an article on Nov. 9.
