Memorial service for Burdene Jacobson Sept. 9 in Racine

The memorial service for Burdene Carol Jacobson, 95, a former resident of Racine and Rochester, will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Racine, with Rev. David Stoeger officiating.
Mrs. Jacobson died on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 of natural causes at McKenna Crossing - Presbyterian Homes in Prior Lake, where she had been a resident since 2012.
Burdene Carol Bailey was born on June 3, 1922 in Racine, to Bert and Mary (Kemmer) Bailey. She grew up on the family farmstead in rural Racine, attended Racine and Stewartville schools, graduating from Stewartville High School in 1940. She attended Paul's Hairdressing Academy in Minneapolis, receiving her certification as a hairdresser. She returned to Racine, where she met the love of her life one night at her father's establishment - Bailey's Dance Hall.
Burdene was married on April 2, 1943, at her parents' home in Racine to R. Paul Jacobson. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Spring Valley for a few years before returning to Racine, where they raised their children.
Burdene was a homemaker and operated Burdene's Beauty Shop from her home for a number of years. They also owned and operated Jacobson's School Bus Service. Mr. Jacobson died on April 16, 1971. Burdene moved to Rochester in 1972 where she was employed as a salesperson at Masseys Dept. Store and Life Uniforms for several years and also stayed busy as a seamstress from her home.
Burdene was a past member of the Racine United Methodist Church where she played organ and sang in the choir and was very active in church activities. She also played and sang with the Racine Rockettes. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, gardening, playing cards, was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to and playing music for most of her life. Burdene loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters and great-grand-daughter.
Burdene is survived by her son and daughter, Dennis (Joan) of Savage and Claudia (Peter) Hennen of Prior Lake; two grand-daughters, Lesley Hennen of Brooklyn, New York and Cara (Marc) Holloway and great-granddaughter, Kathryn of St. Neots, England; one sister, Donna Whittaker of Peoria, Ariz. and one brother, Rod (Kathy) Bailey of Colfax, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul and her sister, Shirley Behnken.
A time of visitation for friends and family will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning. Burial and a committal service will take place at Spring Valley Cemetery in Spring Valley.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
