Committal service for Ivadean Isensee April 14 at Woodlawn

Ivadean "Dean" Isensee, 100, of Stewartville, died on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, of natural causes at Madonna Towers in Rochester, where she had resided for the past year.
Ivadean Agnes Groen was born on Nov. 13, 1917 near Stewartville to Chris and Agnes (Van der Arde) Groen. She attended schools in the Stewartville area until tenth grade and graduated from Chatfield High School in 1936. Following normal training, she taught in country schools for the next five years.
Ivadean met Larry Isensee at a dance in 1938. They were married June 6, 1939 in Chatfield. They lived their entire married life in Stewartville. After 67 years of marriage, Larry passed away in 2006. While being a homemaker, Ivadean held onto her dream of earning a college degree, taking college courses part time and in the summer. In 1965 she graduated from Winona State College. She taught special education in Chatfield and later in Rochester at Edison Elementary School until her retirement from the Rochester School District in 1978. Mr. Isensee was the bulk product dealer for Standard Oil Co. in Stewartville and surrounding area for almost 30 years until his retirement in 1976. Ivadean was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville.
Music was a large part of Larry and Ivadean's retirement. They provided music to many nursing homes and special gatherings in the area. Ivadean was the rhythm section playing piano and drums. Larry provided the melody with his sax and violin. They were members of the Stewartville Community Band and the Chatfield Brass Band. Ivadean played bridge and 500 with a passion. Every grandchild got one of her crocheted afghans. Her flower gardens were rich in color - she could grow anything. Ivadean could power walk faster than any of her children! She loved to dance - polka, shotish, charleston or waltz. She loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ivadean is survived by daughters, Joan (Keith) Witter of Rochester and Patricia (Mike) Ryan of Fargo, ND; her son, Paul (Janet Burda) Isensee of Zimmerman; daughter-in-law, Kathy Isensee of Plymouth; eight grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Ryan, Jon (Angie) Ryan, Scott Isensee, Jill Nelson, Amy (Kasey) Hafenbrack, Sam (Stefanie Tsosie) Witter, Ben (Maria) Witter and Kylan Isensee; 10 great-grandchildren, Logan, Josie, Carter, Keagan, Ivy, Liam, Colin, Sydney, Layne and Emma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, son, Jerry and her three sisters and one brother.
A committal service will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow from 3-5 p.m. at Riverview Greens in Stewartville.
Memorials may be directed to Woodlawn Cemetery Association. 804 Countryview Court S. E., Stewartville, MN 55976.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville.
