Memorial service for Jim Hale Oct. 12 at Stewartville United Methodist

The memorial service for James S. Hale, 57, of Stewartville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Stewartville, with Rev. Bridget Sheely officiating.
Jim died on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at the Stewartville Care Center, following an accidental fall at his home in Red Wing, two weeks ago.
James Steven Hale was born on Feb. 23, 1961 in Rochester, to Robert "Bob" and Joyce (Vinton) Hale, Jr. He grew up in rural Stewartville, attended Stewartville schools graduating from Stewartville High School in 1979. He attended Rochester Community College and graduated from its Certified Nursing Assistant program. Before attending RCC and after completing his CNA training, Jim was employed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Growing up he was an avid trapper and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In 1988, Jim was in an auto accident and suffered a severe brain injury. He was cared for by his family for seven years before moving to Red Wing, where he has lived in an assisted living facility. Jim had a quick sense of humor, enjoyed listening to music (especially classic rock) and visiting with others. He loved time spent with his family and trips to the farm and as he often liked to say - "Catch ya on the flip side!"
Jim is survived by his father, Robert (Jona) Hale, Jr. of rural Stewartville; two brothers, Greg (Heather) and Sean (Ann) both of rural Stewartville; special nieces, Gabi, Emma, Emmerson, Josie, Jessie and Jada; one stepsister, Dawn Zabinski of Kimball; two stepbrothers, Troy (Jill) Helget of Racine and Monte (Kelly) Helget of Clearwater, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce, infant brother, Jeffrey, and his grandparents.
A time of visitation for family and friends will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday morning. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Hamilton Cemetery in rural Racine.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. On-line condolences and memories of Jim are welcome at
