Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Holzer Oct. 24 at St. Bernard's

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Y. Holzer, 91, a longtime Stewartville resident, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, at St Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Holzer died surrounded by family, on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, of natural causes, at the Stewartville Care Center, where she had been a resident since September of 2015.
Mary Yvonne Degnan was born on April 24, 1927 in Lewiston, to Peter and Florence (Duncanson) Degnan. She moved often with her family as a young girl, growing up in Winona County and attending Cathedral High School in Winona, graduating in 1945.
Mary was united in marriage on Oct. 5, 1946 in Minneiska, to William F. Holzer. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in rural Rushford and Plainview, before moving to rural Stewartville in 1955. They moved into Stewartville in 1961, where they raised their family and continued to make their home. Mary was a homemaker and was employed as a nursing unit manager at Rochester Methodist Hospital for 27 years until her retirement. Bill was employed as a machinist at IBM from 1961 until his retirement in 1982. Mr. Holzer died on Feb. 22, 2010. Mary was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, where she belonged to its CCW and helped with many church events through the years. She enjoyed music, baking and cooking, fishing, and solving crossword puzzles. She loved following her children's and grandkids' school and sporting activities and time spent with family meant everything to her.
Mary is survived by one daughter and three sons, Mike (Cheryl) of Wykoff, William "Bill "(Pam) of Hayfield, Nancy (Don) Powers of Hawick, and Steve (Liz) of St. Paul, and son-in-law, Steve Landherr of Rose Creek; 15 grandchildren, Richard (Heather) Holzer, Nathan (Desiree) Holzer, Jon (Jamie) Holzer, Scott (Amanda) Landherr, Mary (Michael) Peck, Erin (Jim) Krulish, Mike Haugh, Daniel Haugh, Kari Haugh, Natalie (Adam) Miller, Chad (Erin) Powers, Chris (Marta) Powers, Wade Powers (Erin Enderson), Meaghan (Patrick) Simpson, and Kati Enderson, spouse of Wade Powers; 20 great-grandchildren; her sister, Joan Dorsey of Lakeport, Cal. and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, daughter, Pat Landherr, grandson, Kyle Haugh, her parents, and brothers, Bill Degnan and George Degnan.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018), at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and an hour before the service at the church on Wednesday morning.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. On-line condolences and memories of Mary are welcome at
